Many people who are interested in nerd culture, find themselves drawn to comic books. Whether they grew up obsessed with the action filled storylines, or they become acquainted with the hobby at an older age- comics books can open readers up to a whole new world. There are also some incredibly high priced comic book releases, often these are the first appearances of certain famed characters Some of these comic books can be incredibly expensive now, especially depending on the condition they are. Comic books decrease in value if they are creased or not in their original pristine condition, and so they often have to be appraised and given a number out of 10 showing their condition and ultimately their value. This is why it can be difficult to actually catalog a list of the most valuable comic books sold, since the value will increase or decrease based on the condition of the comic book itself.

It is important to understand that some of these issues would be even more valuable if a higher grade popped up. Even the slightest 0.2 increase can more than double the price value of the comic book issue. Having that little bit of an upgrade in condition definitely makes a huge difference in the amount of money that sellers can obtain from their comic sale.

Amazing Fantasy  #15 9.6- $1,100,000

The first appearance of Spider-Man is certainly going to be a desirable comic, as his popularity has only continued to rise over time. Most people who are Marvel fans find themselves adoring their friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, making this an incredible expensive comic. At well over a whopping 1 million dollars, this is one of the most valuable comics on the market. A big reason it is so valuable is because it has such an amazingly high grade, with this specific copy being so incredibly well preserved.

X-Men #1 9.8 $490,000

The first in the X-Men series this is certainly a highly valuable comic issue. Of course having been sold with such an incredibly high rating, the specific 9.8 copy definitely did well at action and will continue to do so. Most Marvel fans truly love the X-Men series, and a collector being able to obtain the first issue is quite the rare find. While it certainly costs a lot of money to acquire such a rare and incredible issue, any collector who can afford it would be ecstatic to get their hands on one.

Tales of Suspense #39 9.6- $375,000

The first appearance of Iron Man is certainly a desirable issue, but has increased over time. Initially Iron Man wasn’t all that popular, and has become quite the obsession since Robert Downy Jr. playing the live action role. Having him in the films has definitely caused the first appearance of Iron Man to become an incredibly valuable and desirable issue.

The Incredible Hulk #1 Graded 9.2- $326,000

The first appearance of the Incredible Hulk in 1962 has certainly continued to rise in attraction over recent years. With the higher grade copies selling for over $300,000! So many more have continued to show up on market since the initial sales of those high grade comics, making it one of the most popular and most desirable editions right now.

Captain America Comics #1 9.2- $300,000

With the origin and first appearance of Captain America this comic can sell for extremely high prices depending on the rating. Even a poorly graded copy will sell for upward of $15,000. This is certainly a valuable comic, even if some people have negative feelings about the storyline. There is many backlash that Captain America received, but that does not change how incredibly valuable the first appearance can be.

Marvel Comics #1 9.0- $300,000

This issue includes the first appearance of the Human Torch and the Angel, and was the first issue created by the company that would later be known as Marvel Comics. The issue would sell for much higher but the highest grade seen is a 9.0. If there were higher graded issues on the market they would certainly continue to double in value, and become one of the most valuable issues available.

The Avengers #1 9.6- $274,000

The first appearance of the Avengers is certainly a valuable comic but of course it ranges based on the rating. The lowest is seen as around a $500 value but it can be much higher selling for close to $300,000 with a higher rating. Again when the rating decreased by even 0.2 it almost cuts that value in half, showing just how important the condition of the comic really is.

 

After seeing this list it might just be time to pull out your old comics and discover if you have anything truly valuable. You might be surprised by which ones have gone up in value and can be appraised to resell for quite the incredible amount of money.
