The Top 10 Rarest and Most Expensive Original Xbox Games

When you think of rare and pricey collectible video games we often think of older consoles that have a strong nostalgic value. You don’t see people discuss the original Xbox and some of the more valuable games that went along with it. Some of these games are surprisingly hard to find, and can even be sold for a nice little price. Many of the older games are valuable because collectors can actually play them on the 360, and they want to get their hands on these older games. Most of the older Xbox games are pretty dang cheap, but a few of them are rare and desirable by collectors. While they might not get you rich, they still get snatched up pretty quick by those collectors who want them.

Marvel Vs. Capcom 2

In this mashup fighting game you select a team of characters from these different universes to face off against an opponent. While the PS2 version is pricier and more popular, the Xbox version can still fetch you a decent dollar amount. You can see them selling for $50-$200 depending on how complete it is. There are still some with the factory seal which fetch a couple hundred dollars easily.

Sonic Mega Collection Plus & Super Monkey Ball Deluxe

This rerelease holds a value because it contains two excellent Sega titles in one game. The game can sell for around $40, but the sealed version can be around $80. Being released near the end of the original Xbox’s reign, caused a much smaller release of these games. Obviously the fact that there were less released makes it a bit rarer.

Jurassic Park Operation Genesis

Being that this is a more uncommon Xbox game, it is a somewhat more desirable edition. It has a feel like tycoon games, having to recreate the Jurassic Park theme park, but also making sure the dinosaurs don’t attack your guests. This game can sell for $40-$100 depending on the condition and of course if it is complete and in the original packaging.

Grand Theft Auto Trilogy

This includes GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas in one gaming package, making it a desirable edition for super-fans. Being that this released around the release of the Xbox 360, it got dropped by many retailers. It wasn’t as popular and so there was a more limited release of this specific package. Used it can sell for around $40 but can get up to over $100 new, making it a more valuable Xbox original game.

Halo Triple Pack

This edition was another one released near the end of the original Xbox career, making it a bit more of a limited release. It includes Halo 1, Halo 2 and Halo 2 Map expansion, and is backwards compatible for the 360. Of course any older games that can actually be played with the more recent console can be a bit more desirable for a wider range of gamers and collectors.

Street Fighter Anniversary Edition

This contains Hyper Street Fighter II, and Street Fighter III: Third Strike, all on one disc, making it a more unique and special edition. While it was already an extremely popular series, in recent years the price and desire have continued to go up. It usually sells at around $40-$50 but it continues to climb, making it an awesome yard sale type find.

Sniper Elite

This game was released on PS2 at around the same time as Xbox and wasn’t very popular with the initial release. While it wasn’t the most popular game when it came out, that actually makes it even rarer now. The title makes the gameplay pretty evident, being that it is based on stealth and long range shooting. It has very realistic gameplay, factoring in real life elements such as wind and breathing.  It can sell from $30-$50 online, making it a great find for collectors.

Star Wars Jedi Knight Academy

While this was not a limited release and was certainly very popular during its initial release, it remains a popular and desirable game. The gamer plays as a student at the Jedi academy, following missions from Luke Skywalker and the other Jedi. It can sell for around $20-$80, and continues to rise in popularity as the Star Wars franchise continues to grow and explode for new fans.

Teen Titans

This action game is based on popular TV series, and you get to play as the characters from the DC Universe, Robin, Starfire, Raven, Cyborg and Beast Boy. This game wasn’t released until a year after the Xbox 360 game out, which made it a much less popular edition with retailers- almost considered old news at the time of release. It can sell for around $50 now, mostly for fans of the series who simply want to get their hands on this game.

Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind Gold Game of the Year

On PC this game received two expansion packs, and the Xbox game of the year version included both of those expansions along with the game. Being that this is an already popular game, the version continues to be a desirable one. It can sell for around $30, but can be seen selling for $100 new.

 

While these games might not be as crazy valuable as original Nintendo, Super Nintendo or even original Playstation games, they are still surprisingly worth grabbing. Especially since many of you might still have some of these games in your collection. It is always nice to realize that you have a little gem in your possession. Many of the game son the list continue to climb in value as well, making them potentially pricey down the line as they become older and more nostalgic.
