The Rarest and Most Expensive Super Nintendo (SNES) Games

It’s no secret that retro gaming has come back full swing, and everyone is waxing a bit nostalgic. It seems many of us who played Super Nintendo or original Nintendo, are not eager to get our hands on a bit of the past. Maybe it has something to do with stressful times, or simply the dissonant feeling of growing older- but many of us are feeling more nostalgic these days. We want to regain some memories of simpler times, and sitting at home after school playing your favorite Nintendo games, is certainly a positive memory. Since many people are feeling drawn to these retro games, the prices of some have really skyrocketed. The more rare and hard to acquire games have seen a real boom in price, while some have just gone up due to popularity. Since the excitement has reached a new level of hype, it seems most collectors and classic fans will be wanting to get their hands on an old school console. We decided to share a list of some of the most expensive and incredibly valuable Super Nintendo games on the market right now.

Nintendo Powerfest 1994

While I am not eager to fill this list with games like this, it certainly deserves a mention simply for the incredibly high value and rarity that it possesses. Powerfest 1994 was a national video game competition and this gaming cartridge was created specifically for the event with three games on it. This specific game cartridge is said to possess only one or two left in existence, sine the rest were destroyed by Nintendo after the event itself. It was sold to a collector for $10,000, but being that there is only one or two left, the market is controlled by the seller. This means the value could ultimately be pretty priceless, making it one of the most valuable pieces on this list.

Donkey Kong Country Competition Cartridge

Another game released for an in store competition, this one was released for Blockbuster. This game has 8 levels and only allows for 5 minutes of gameplay before scores are read. It sells for somewhere over $600 and is said to have 2,500 copies made.

StarFox Super Weekend Competition Cartridge

This was specifically made for a Nintendo competition and released in toy stores and is basically a sampler of the game. It was released with somewhere under 2,000 copies which is why it is so valuable. This is obviously more valuable for collectors, being that it allows for 4 minutes of gameplay. It sells for around $400 online, making it solely for the purpose of collectors who want this piece for appearance more than anything else.

Aero Fighters

This game was originally an arcade game, which caused less of them to be released when made for SNES. It can sell for over $700 online, and is somewhat difficult to come by. It certainly has continued to shoot up in price and will likely continue climbing with the boom in interest.

Cool World

Modeled after the movie, this game has continued to increase in value. It seems to sell for upwards of $300-$500 online, and continues to be a difficult one to snag at any reasonable price. While many people argue it isn’t the best game, it certainly is one of the rarest.

Harvest Moon

The original Harvest Moon was created as a farming and herding game, and is now a somewhat valuable piece. A major reason why this game has climbed in price, is because it was initially not that wanted back in the day. People didn’t seem all that interested in its original release, which allowed for less copies made, now causing the game to increase quite a bit in price. It sells for upwards of $200 online, and is actually somewhat difficult to come by even at those prices.

Mega Man 7

Since this game seemed to go relatively unnoticed during its release, Mega Man 7 is now a coveted and hard to find game. Selling for hundreds of dollars online, it is one that many Mega Man fans want to get their hands on for their collection.

Earthbound

Earthbound is a classic RPG game with many followers who are head over heels for it’s funny gameplay. While it isn’t well known it sells for over $100 to those who can get their hands on it. Unfortunately for anyone interested in purchasing this game, it can be rather hard to find even from resellers online.

E.V.O Search for Eden

While it wasn’t something people were all that excited about during release, it is a game that retro gamers are highly interested in now. Since it wasn’t as popular when it released in ’93, the game had less copies made thus making it highly valuable now. Selling for over $200 online, this game has the player create a creature and then play through the history of the Earth going through the geological periods as you level up your character.
