The Rarest and Most Expensive PlayStation Games
The Rarest and Most Expensive PlayStation Games
While you might be aware that retro games have increased in price, it can be surprising just how much. Most people have seen NES and SNES games continue to become more popular, but even more surprising is that your original PlayStation games might actually be crazy valuable. While the console itself is rather readily available, some of the games might just shock you. Some of these games are expensive because they had such a limited release, while others are this way because of their popularity.
Whatever the reason for their increase in value, it is rather exciting to know that some of your old games could actually be rather pricey. Many of us feel very nostalgic when we think back on some of our favorite games, and would honestly love to be able to play them once again. So if you’re looking into purchasing an old console once again, you might want to know which games will be a bit out of your reach- unless you are willing to drop some serious cash.
NBA Elite 2
This is likely the rarest PS3 game ever created, since its official release was cancelled. Somehow a box was accidentally shipped meaning that only a few copies were released into the world. The game was cancelled because it did poorly during the demo release, but it was too late when some had already been shipped to stores. Because of this incredibly low release amount, the game is ridiculously valuable- even though it wasn’t revered as a great game. It can sell for over $9,000 to the right buyer who simply wants to collect something this rare.
While most of the games on this list are specific to PS1, we decided this specific game for PS3 was worth mentioning simply because of its sheer value.
Suikoden 2
Since the initial release of this game wasn’t entirely a smash hit, it become valuable because of the small number released. Since it has actually become a highly recommended RPG game more recently, the value has increased and Suikoden 2 can sell for over $300 in good condition.
Valkyrie Profile
Since this game has grown in popularity with RPG fans, it has become more valuable. It is difficult to find this game now unfortunately, which makes it even more expensive when you do get lucky enough to find it for sale. There has been a rerelease for PSP, but that only causes the original to climb in value since interested for the retro version has become more apparent. Used versions sell for close to $200, while any unused copies can sell for almost $500.
The Misadventures of Tron Bonne
Serving as a prequel to the Mega Man Legends games, this one is wildly different than what would be expected. It has many different styles within the levels, some puzzle centered, action centered and other various themes. This game continues to rise in value rather rapidly, selling for over $300 if the condition is right.
Final Fantasy VII (Black Label)
While this game has a decent amount of copies made, it is still rather valuable. Finale Fantasy is always a pretty popular game so copies are not always difficult to find. While it might not be incredible rare, it is certainly very valuable for a PlayStation game. This game can sell for $300 used but above $500 if found brand new in mint condition.
Tomba
While this isn’t the most popular game, especially during its initial release, it has developed somewhat of a cult following. With fans who enjoy the game itself spreading the news about its awesomeness, it has begun increasing in value and rather rapidly. It can sell for almost $200, in some cases even higher because it is not easy to actually find.
Tactics Ogre
This game receives high praise from RPG style fans, and is continuing to increase in value. It was originally released in Japan but was released for PS1 in the US. While it continues to grow it can currently sell for around $100 used online.
Diablo
While Diablo is much more popular on the PC, it still created such a fanbase that many people still want to purchase the PlayStation version. The action role-playing sequence is definitely something that many fans are obsessed with, since Diablo has a challenging and otherworldly surrounding. It can sell for around $80 used but up to $200 brand new and sealed.
Lunar Silver Star Story Complete
This game can sell for close to $200 online and continues to climb in value. Since it wasn’t extremely sought after during its initial release, the game didn’t have that many copies made. It is now a somewhat popular game with fans, making it a relatively valuable PS1 game.
