Funko POP Collecting Terms
Funko POP Collecting Terms: Knowing the Lingo
If you are a beginner in the Funko collecting world, some of the terms can be a bit confusing. Some of the lingo is rather easy to pick up, while other things might throw off someone who hasn’t been collecting for very long. In order to simplify things for you, we have compiled this list of Funko collecting terms.
Chase
A chase is a variant of a regular POP that is released, but it is much rarer. It will usually be slightly different than the original, making it unique and harder to come by. It will be limited to a variant like 1:6, but sometimes there are even rarer chases that are limited to 1:8 or higher. These POPs have a sticker on the front which indicates that they are a special chase version.
Grail
A grail simply indicates that it is a very desirable POP. Grails can sometimes be lower valued, because they are simply the POP collectors most wanted item. Whatever POP you are on the hunt for the most- that is your grail.
Flocked
Flocked POPs are- for lack of a better word- fuzzy. They are regular POPs covered in a layer of what appears like fur. This is great for animal POPs, making them look like they actually have fuzz on them.
Metallic
Easy enough to understand- some POPs come in a metallic variant.
Patina
A green or brown film, causing the POP to appear bronze-like.
Exclusive
Exclusives simply mean that the POP is only available at a specific store or event. These POPs often have stickers to indicate which store they come from. Places like Hot Topic or GameStop, often have popular exclusives.
GITD
GITD simply stands for Glow in the Dark. There are plenty of desirable glow POPs, some of which are actually chases.
SDCC
This is simply the shorthand for San Diego Comic Con- which is a comic convention located in San Diego. There are often many exclusives available there, some of which are shared with local stores on the day of release. Of course some of the POPs available are limited to a small number, making them only purchasable at the convention itself.
Proto
Proto means prototype- these are just sample or model versions of the POPs. These are often hard to come by and can sometimes be won in Funko contests and giveaways.
Freddy Funko
Freddy Funko is essentially the mascot for Funko. He is a character that they created, and the POP versions can become extremely expensive and hard to find.
OOB
This stands for out of box, which is how some collectors like to display their POPs. While some people prefer to keep their POPs inside of their boxes, partly because it keeps the value higher- others enjoy taking their POPs out of their boxes.
OBO
This means “or best offer,” which is often used when selling POPs. A good way to acquire vaulted POPs that you cannot find in stores, is often to buy from trusted sellers.
FT
For trade- this is another way to acquire POPs that you can no longer buy in stores. Some people enjoy trading their POPs with other collectors- but this requires certain steps to help keep you safe from being scammed. Online Facebook groups can be a great way to connect with other avid POP collectors.
FS
For sale- simple another term for people who are selling their POPs online or in the various Facebook groups.
NIB
New in box- this just means that the item is brand new and has never been taken out of the box.
Mint
This indicates that the POP is in perfect condition and does not have any box damages or dents.
LE
Limited Edition- this simply means that there is a smaller number of these POPs made.
Numbered
Numbered are even rarer than the limited edition POPs. These are set with a specific number, and it is often labelled directly on the sticker. These are usually convention exclusives, but some store exclusive POPs are also numbered.
In the Wild
In the wild simply means that the POP was found while in a store or at an event. These POPs were not acquired through trade, or by purchasing from a seller online.
HT
This stands for Hot Topic- which is a store often seen in malls. They always carry POPs, and in some cases they get exclusives and chases.
B&N
Barnes and Noble- this is a store that also cares exclusive Funko POPs.
GS
GameStop- a gaming store that also cares POPs.

The Most Anticipated and Wanted Funko POPs
The Most Anticipated and Wanted Funko POPs
As collectors we dream about certain POPs that we hope will be created by Funko. While some of these seem like long shots- simply pipe dreams that will never happen- others seem much more possible. Some POPS will probably never happen, mostly because of licensing issues with Funko- but there are certainly plenty more POPs to be made. Here is our list of the most anticipated and wanted Funko POPs, that we hope will be created.
Pokemon POPs– This is definitely one of the most wanted Funko lines, and fans are both hopeful and fearful of the day that they arrive. We are hopeful, because it will certainly be an exciting day for Pokemon obsessed folks- we are fearful because our wallets will likely suffer from this. Funko will definitely profit from this seemingly unending amount of POPs that they can make if they do decide to venture into the Pokemon world.
Disney POPs– Sure, there are already tons of Disney POPs in circulation, with more being made constantly- but it’s no big deal…fans want more! Not only are there plenty of Disney Princes that have not been made- there are also various sidekicks and characters that need to be created. It is rumored that Funko had some licensing issues with some of the Disney Princes, so it is possible that POPs like Aladdin will never be made.
Although knowing that some Disney POPs will never be created- there is still plenty to look forward to. Fans who have wanted the Seven Dwarves for a long time are in luck! A few of the Dwarves are have been leaked and are soon to be released. So there is hope for the fans, hope that all of our dreams really can come true. Here are some images to give you an idea of the POPs that Disney fans are hoping for.
Gaming POPs– There are plenty of gaming POPs that have not been made. Some fans want the Call of Duty zombies- while others are hoping for Fallout companions that have not been made.
Austin Powers
How I Met Your Mother
Jurassic Park
Ed, Edd and Eddy
Tom and Jerry
Xena
Hercules
Zombieland
Mission Impossible
007
Horror POPs- There are plenty of horror POPs to be made, like the Crpyt Keeper, or Candyman.
This is just a short list of some of the most desired POPs in that have yet to be added to the Funko universe. Fans are still hopeful that many more of these will be made, and there is nothing more exciting than having these Funko dreams come true.
What are some POPs that you wish Funko would make?

The Absolute Hardest To Find Funko POP Figures
The Absolute Hardest To Find Funko POP Figures
Hunting Funko POPs can be an exciting and difficult task. Some people simply go after the new releases, while others are searching for some of the vaulted and more difficult to find POPs for sale. Of course even the newer POPs can be hard to find, especially since people rush to the stores to buy them- but we aren’t referring to the slightly difficult Funko hunts. There are certain POPs that are almost impossible to find, and this is mostly because there aren’t many of them in existence. So here is a list of some of the hardest to find POPs- even if you have the money to drop on these, you still probably won’t find them!
Planet Arlia Vegeta Toy Tokyo Exclusive
This POP is extremely desired by Dragon Ball Z fans. It is also a very hard one to get your hands on, with a rather high price tag.
GITD Green Lantern
With only 240 created this glow in the dark POP is extremely difficult to find. It was an exclusive to the San Diego Comic Con in 2010, and is a highly desired POP for any Green Lantern fans.
Stan Lee POP Figures
There are plenty of desirable Stan Lee POPs, and many of them are actually not too difficult to acquire. There are two specific ones that are extremely hard to get your hands on. The gold and platinum metallic Stan Lee POPs, are highly valued POPs, with only 10 of each in existence!
Freddy Funko Oompa Loompa GITD
This Freddy Funko POP is actually numbered to 24 in existence! This awesome POP was exclusive to Funko Fun Days, and is valued at close to $700. Pretty much any exclusive Freddy Funko POP becomes rather rare and hard to acquire, especially the ones exclusive to comic con.
Below are a few more rare Freddy Funko figures with only a small number made:
The Joker Freddy- Edition Size- 96
Jack Skellington Freddy- Edition Size- 196
Boba Fett Red Hair- Edition Size- 96
BeetleJuice Freddy- Edition Size- 96
Dark Knight Joker Freddy GITD- Edition Size- 24
Jack Skellington Glitter- Edition Size- 24
Clone Trooper Freddy (Blue Hai)- Edition Size- 12
Those were just a handful of the convention exclusive Freddy Funko POPs. These are some of the rarest POPs in creation, and are nearly impossible to find and acquire. The list of Freddy’s that are hard to find, is actually a rather long one.
Dumbo Clown and Gold Versions
Both of these exclusive Dumbo POPS are actually extremely difficult to find with only 48 made of each! For any Disney fans they are certainly desirable POPs, but they are almost impossible to get your hands on. Both were exclusive to San Diego Comic Con, and it seems that their owners are not eager to part with these beauties.
Alex Delarge (With Chase)
This is one of the most elusive POPs in creation. It is almost regarded as a myth, with so few actually created. There was a recent re-lease of these POPs, making a common one easy to acquire. We are not referring to these newer versions, but rather the initial run that was cut short due to licensing. There were only about 24 of them made with around 12 chases, and those are rarely seen anywhere on the market. The original version might actually be the absolutely hardest to find POP inexistence.
Willy Wonka and Oompa Loompa Golden Ticket 2-Pack
This 2 pack is actually so rare, that it is nearly impossible to put a price tag on it. This is numbered with only 10 in existence!! It was an exclusive to the funko fun day’s event at comic con, and was only given to 10 extremely lucky winners! There are many rare and hard to find POPs on this list, but this one has to be the absolute rarest of the all!
There are plenty more rare figures out there to be found, and plenty that will be released in the future. Some of these POPs are almost impossible to even find, let alone get your hands on them. Good luck hunting POP collectors!
Feel free to contact us or comment which POPs you think should be on this list!

Top Ten Most Expensive Funko POPs
While some of us are just lucky to find a pop valued higher than it’s original purchase, others are spending thousands of dollars on one single POP! Yes, you heard us correctly THOUSANDS!
For some of us collecting POPs is more than a hobby, more than an obsession, it is a lifestyle. Taking time out of our busy schedules to hunt down our favorite POPs, even cutting into the piggy bank to purchase some of those harder to find items. Whether you are an in box collector or an out of box collector, where you enjoy DC POPs or prefer Marvel Funko items (*cough cough* like us)- we are all in the same boat. We love our POPs and we are not ashamed to admit it.
This article is dedicated to some of the rarest and priciest POPs in the collector-verse. We are warning you, the prices of some of these POPs are obscene!
The first and highest valued POP on our list, is the Freddy Funko Boba Fett. This piece is not only valued extremely high, he also sells for even higher than his estimated value. He occasionally sells for somewhere between 1 to 2 thousand dollars, and that is a lucky grab! This pop recently sold for the not so bargain price of $6,000.oo! This little beauty is a rare comic con exclusive, and has unbelievable detail to his design. It was released as a San Diego Comic Con Exclusive back in 2014. What an insane price for one little POP! But we don’t blame the buyer, if we could afford it we would most certainly want to get our hands on this little guy.
Next up on our list is another Freddy Funko San Diego Comic Con Exclusive POP. This Freddy Funko Superman POP is valued rather high, recently selling for over $3,000.00. With Freddy’s adorable red hair and precious freckles, how could not love this little guy? Sporting his Funko crown along with a full suited Superman costume, he is one to be sought after. Again, far too high of a price for our wallets, but we would cherish a collection with him in it. He was released back in 2011, making him even older than the Freddy Boba Fett pop.
One of my personal favorites on this pricey list, has to be the Clown Dumbo POP. Another San Diego Comic Con exclusive from 2013, this beauty goes for over 2,000.00 dollars. Any Disney fan definitely wants this cutie in their collection, even if all they can do it dream about. Glitter Black Panther Exclusive: In Depth Review
With the upcoming Captain America: Civil War film, many funko hunters are eager to get their hands on their favorite Captain America: Civil War POPs. One of the newest and most exciting of these POPs is the Glitter Black Panther Walmart Exclusive. We all know that Walmart can be a challenging place to find our POPs. Many of the stores do not even get our favorite exclusives, while others sell out so quickly that we never even get a chance to see them. This eagerness to collect can often make the hunt for certain exclusives rather frustrating. But there is nothing like finding one of those desirable POPs that we have been waiting for.
Black Panther has already had two POPs released for the new Civil War movie, but this third proves to be a rather intriguing variation. At first I must admit I was skeptical about the release of a Glittered Black Panther POP. Glitter? I mean are we serious here? It is basically taking the exact same POP as before and just sprinkling some sparkles over the top of it. But after getting my hands on one of these treasures, I realized I was very wrong. Not only does the glitter draw my attention, but the POP itself is a much more interesting texture than the regular shiny Black Panther. It is more of a gritty matte figure with a sparkling tint to it. It makes for something very interesting and I must say I am in love with it.
This POP is definitely one you want to add to your collection, not only because it is aesthetically gorgeous, but also because of the backstory of the character. I must admit I wasn’t the most knowledgeable person when it came to Black Panthers story-line, but after reading more about him I am very intrigued. Not only does he have the incredible skills similar to a cat, with heightened senses, superhuman strength, speed and agility- he also is of genius level intellect. The more I read the more impressed I became, not to forget the fact that Black Panther is the fist black superhero in mainstream American comics. So he is a pioneer of his time, with a rather impressive list of skills and abilities. This POP is quickly becoming one of my favorites, and is getting me even more excited for the appearance of Black Panther in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War.
Photos of the Glitter Black Panther do not do it justice, but I must say they do look pretty good.
Above are the original Black Panther and the Black Panther (Unmasked) Walgreen exclusive.
Make sure to search your Walmart’s for one of these amazing POPs, we may even be doing a giveaway for him on our social media accounts. Stay tuned and follow us on Twitter and Facebook.
