The 8 Best Multiplayer Games to Enjoy on a Split-Screen

It can be rather challenging searching for games to play at home with your friends and loved ones. We aren’t talking about online gameplay, since if you want to play with a friend that requires multiple consoles and games purchases. What we mean is the split screen gameplay that you can enjoy sitting next to that special someone. Being able to share that time spent playing your favorite games, is definitely a great bonding experience. While some of these games aren’t solely made to be played coop, they do have different gameplay modes that include multiplayer gameplay. It can be challenging to find games that give you a satisfying gameplay but also allow for split-screen. It seems that online multiplayer is a much more common option when it comes to playing with friends. So here is a list of some of our personal favorite split-screen games that you can enjoy on the couch together. We have included various different game styles in hopes of hitting everyone’s personal preferences as well.

Ark: Survival Evolved

For anyone who enjoys survival crafting games and also has an affinity for dinosaurs, this is the perfect game for you. It can be enjoyed online but you can also play it on the couch with a friend in the split-screen mode. This game is intricate and rather challenging, and makes for an enjoyable two-player experience. You have to fight to stay alive by finding food, water and crafting the appropriate gear in order to keep yourself safe- all the while avoiding and fighting predator dinos that want to take you down. Thankfully not all of the animals are dangerous, and some are rather easy to tame and use as protection. Taming is one of the more challenging and exciting aspects to the game, especially when you start trying to tame the predators themselves.

Ark is a great game for fans of crafting survival games, who aren’t just looking for a first-person shooter style gameplay. It gives an enjoyable experience with amazing graphics and fun details lurking around each corner of the game.

7 Days to Die

7 Days to Die is extremely similar to Ark, but with zombies. While it isn’t as detailed or exciting, it does pose a somewhat frightening style of gameplay as you attempt to avoid the zombies. The title stems from the fact that every 7 days the moon turns red and the zombie hordes come strolling towards your location in hopes of finding their next meal. It is best to get your home fortified before that 7 days approaches, especially since each week becomes more difficult and the hoards become more frightening. This is certainly a fun game but I suggest playing it before you experience Ark, since it might feel a bit unfinished and silly after that experience.

Left 4 Dead

While Left 4 Dead doesn’t play as the longest game, it is definitely a fun one to enjoy with a friend. Take on the hoards and try to push towards survival, in hopes of making your extraction point in time. It might not be what you are looking for if you want game with hours upon hours of gameplay, but it is certainly worth buying for a bit of fun and time spent shooting up zombies with your loved ones.

Halo

Halo is a great series with awesome multiplayer gameplay that you can enjoy in split-screen. While it doesn’t have as much progression as some games, it does continue to become harder and harder as you go on. You simply have to stay alive and take out the alien critters as they come to take you and your partner down. It makes for a fun team game, since the best way to survive is to help each other out and work together throughout the experience.

Borderlands

Borderlands is definitely a must play game for anyone wanting to enjoy a split-screen play through with an actual story to it. It’s exciting being able to fight alongside your friend as you take on the different parts of the game. It is both fun and humorous, especially when you take on Claptrap (although many don’t find him all that amusing).  If you are in the mood for a shooter game, with a bit of story and unique weapons upgrades, this is the game for you and your friends.

Mario Kart, Mario Party, etc.

Most of us are fully aware that Mario Brothers, Mario Kart and pretty much any Mario game you can speak of, includes awesome multiplayer options. The split-screen aspect with more than just two-player modes, makes this an incredible option for gamers. One of the most classic and enjoyable series, you cannot beat being able to either challenge or work alongside your family and friends as you experience the challenging levels.

Resident Evil 5 (and 6)

While many of the classic RE games are not set in split-screen, this one takes an entirely different direction. It is definitely a great game to play on the couch with your friends, and the gameplay is rather enjoyable. It isn’t my personal favorite Resident Evil game to date, but for a split-screen game it really is fun and worth the purchase. Both 5 and 6 experience the split-screen multiplayer mode, but don’t expect hours upon hours of fun gameplay. Just shoot ‘em and kill ‘em with a bit of storyline in the background.

Call of Duty

While Call of Duty has many gameplay options, it really is a great split-screen shooter. I personally prefer playing the zombies edition, and love being able to increase through the levels with friends. It gives different challenges and has a biting sense of humor which makes it even more exciting. With different expansions that you can purchase in order to keep the game exciting, Call of Duty is definitely a great series for any split-screen players out there.
